The Region of Waterloo, Water Services Division, hired C3 Water Inc. (C3W) to facilitate a full multi-disciplined assessment of the existing St. Jacobs Pumping Station. The St. Jacobs Pumping Station is located on Northside Dr., in the Town of St. Jacobs in Woolwich Township.
The existing system consists of an in-ground storage reservoir, booster pumps, flow metering equipment, surge suppression systems and associated valving and piping. The station is designed to boost water produced at the Mannheim WTP in Zone 4 of Kitchener into the Towns of Elmira and St. Jacobs. The project was implemented in the early 1990’s when the towns’ water supply wells were found to be contaminated. These wells have been running to waste through a pump and treat operation since that time in an effort to treat the contaminated groundwater plume. The station delivers water through a transmission main to elevated storage in the Town of Elmira and through a pressure reducing valve to the Town of St. Jacobs which operates at a much lower hydraulic grade line.
C3 Water Project Objectives and deliverables included:
- Project initiation meeting and background investigations.
- Multi-disciplinary site investigation to collect an asset inventory for the Region’s asset management tool and to complete a condition assessment.
- Follow-up workshops to review the condition findings, review potential work order types, and discuss potential upgrade projects required to address operational or maintenance deficiencies.
- Delivery of a final condition assessment report including a 10-year capital improvement plan and cash flow.
